Who Thinks AI is a Good Idea?
Children and Technology
Does anyone think kids using cell phones before 16 is a good idea? I suppose if you constantly monitor their use and trust them completely it could be used as a tool. The problem is kids brains are not really developed until they are at least 25 and they can figure out a way to get around your controls faster than you can keep up with the technology. Keep in mind that school is as much a hackers learning facility as it is an indoctrination to liberal America. You take a child with a barely formed frontal lobe and give him a tool which can be used to view porn, cook meth and expose all kinds of bad behavior and think it is not a problem? In addition it is addictive. Some kid recently shot his dad when he took away his cell phone. I am sure that has happened more than once. The phone is a part of their brain, not just a tool to search for the best physics programs. Search engines curate and form their thought processes. Children cannot drink alcohol before 21 because they are not mature enough and their judgement can be affected. They cannot drive until 16 as they might be dangerous to themselves or other drivers. Why would anyone think they can handle a doorway to all that is bad in world? I am sure there are stories of great kids that use their phone to send their mothers flowers, but there are way more stories of kids abusing the technology.
One really has to wonder how much of this did the big tech companies realize when they developed this technology? What measures have they taken to make it more addictive? So if they knew it was destructive and they consciously made it more addictive, how is this different from the big cigarette companies? You could argue that the tech is useful when used in moderation but so is alcohol. If the device is as safe as alcohol, why are kids under 21 using it? Are there more fatal accidents caused by cell phones than by alcohol? Probably.
The phone in the hands of a child is causing all kinds of bad brain development. It emphasizes short term satisfaction. A dopamine rush. It tells the user that he or she can get a quick dopamine rush without having to wait for any long term satisfaction. Eventually they think everything is supposed to give them immediate satisfaction. It is the same thing as a sugar rush. It is the same as porn. Quick pleasure followed by long term bad effects. It alters their sense of reality. Every parent knows how addictive the things are. Try and take it away and see what happens. It is like giving an addict a pile of cocaine and telling him to just use a little every day without abusing it. Please.
Clearly phones should be banned before the age of 16. At 16 you can argue that children need them if they are driving. Although, somehow I managed to drive without having a phone. This would anger many parents who use devices as baby sitters. I get it. Back in the day a little bourbon was used for a teething child. If someone did that now every mom in the area would scowl. We also rode bikes without helmets. Eventually people will be seen as bad parents if their three year old is glued to a device. Probably safer to just give them a cigarette.
Just as people seem to be figuring out how detrimental phones are in kids, along comes artificial intelligence. Lets take a barely developed brain in a child that cannot even look someone in the eye anymore and give them an easy answer to every question. Great idea. You are taking a immature brain and giving it all the answers. This removes any actual learning and any chance of learning through failure. This is idiotic. Adults use AI as an expanded search engine but children already use AI to do all of the work. They do not search for information, they type four words and it creates the entire project. They will be incapable of solving even the simplest problems. Just watch the teenager try and figure out change without the cash register. My favorite game is to give them additional money after the machine tells them the change and ask for the new amount of change. Their brains melt.
In addition to the fact that they will be incapable of actually learning, they will be unaware of the bias within the system. Also, once a single system shows dominance all AI will be on one platform. The winner of the AI race will eliminate all other forms of AI. There will be one AI in control of everything. This will be total control of a totally dependent population. Also, very quickly AI will be creating itself and no one will really even know how it works. AI has no emotion, no empathy and no guilt. Sam Altman even recently said people should stop saying “thank you” to AI as it eats up computing power and cost millions of dollars. Great, make AI more emotionally detached than it already is.
So the plan is, take developing brains and give them a hand held device that creates short term neural pathways. How many of them lost what few social skills they had with the mask mandates and closing of the schools during Covid. In the new world, the machine decides what is important. The device is as addictive as a drug. The mind stops working. AI steps in and tells the meat-bot what to do and think. What could possible go wrong? As a bonus, the system uses an insane amount of energy. Whatever happened to the fear of global warming? I guess short videos and dead scrolling the internet eliminates the fear of global warming as well.
